Google’s 411 service

Published by blognuts under News, Online Gems, Tips Edit This

Google now has 411 service … and it is FREE! All you need to do is dial 1-800-GOOG-411. Say where the place you are calling. State what you are looking for, then GOOG-411 will connect you directly with the business you are calling. That simple. That easy!

Some telephone company may apply usual charges for making a call but you will not be charged any additional fee. And also if you are calling from your mobile phone, you can just say “text message” or “map it”, GOOG-411 can even send you a text message with more details and a map.

Watch the video:

I really love Google . They make my life so much easier. Hah! :)

Is G1 What I’m Looking For?

Published by blognuts under Gadgets, News, Online Gems Edit This

I am an Apple person … but I was never quite happy with the IPhone. When someone gave me an IPhone last year for Christmas, I ended up giving it away.

I got pretty excited when I learned about Google’s phone, G1 … it “could” be what I’m looking for. I wouldn’t know yet until I play with it. But reading the reviews is getting me hyped up. BUT unfortunately, I only see it on T Mobile … although I heard it will be open to all networks soon. For now, they are just hear-say … I would have to wait.

G1 operates on Android system. I’m no techie so I had to research about it. Wikepidia explained it well here. It simply means this will work great with Google’s applications.

G1

G1 has a QWERTY keyboard which I love and one of the things I wish Apple’s IPhone had. It also has 3G network, Wi-Fi acess, GPS, Music Player, Bluetooth, IM, Text, Email, Camera… everything you want in there, its there! Google do listen to consumers.

Can they make it prettier too? :)

Google Docs - Best Way to Collaborate

Published by blognuts under Online Gems, Tips Edit This

One of the reasons I started out this blog is to share useful things I find online. We have recently implemented the use of Google Docs at my work place. Its not a new app but I never had the need for its use until now. The company I work for expanded and I have to constantly communicate online with another department in another country. We constantly email documents, excel files, spreadsheets, etc and constantly update. The exchange can get confusing too esp there are 11 of us in constant interaction. Who edited what? What’s the latest file? But with Google Docs, I can share and collaborate documents in real time and everyone is just looking at one file. Check out the video :)

I can edit anytime or anywhere since our files are stored online.  I can choose who can access a particular document or if it is meant to be shared with our whole department. I can also view Google Docs on my mobile phone.

This is such great way to organize. I definitely would recommend Google Docs  to everyone who collaborates documents .. or just plain need help in organizing spreadsheets.

Addicted to Mob Wars

Published by blognuts under Online Gems, Tips Edit This

I’m addicted to Mob Wars of Facebook ! I’ve been getting invites from people but I kept ignoring them. Finally I gave in and added Mob Wars app 2 weeks ago and I can’t stop playing!

It’s a mafia game where you work your way up from being a thief to God knows what! Lol! Right now I’m only in Level 25 and I’m trying to get more people to join my mob. My friends think its insane esp. for a girl like me who’s pretty much into outdoor activities and less likely to get stuck playing computer games. Hey I like my computer games too, you know ;)

Mob Wars

Here are a few tips … no cheats! :)

  • Invite as many friends as possible to join your mob.
  • Do the required jobs. Max your energy. So far I haven’t been busted for doing a job.
  • Invest on cities. Make lots of money.
  • Buy weapons.
  • Start fights. This gain experience points.
  • Have a blast!

Ive also tried playing with Gangster Battle but its not as fun as Mob Wars. So if you guys are in Facebook and playing Mob Wars, add me in your mob! lol! …Seriously, send me a message!

Drunk - Emailing?

Published by blognuts under Gadgets, News, Tips Edit This

Have you heard of drunk-emailing? That’s pretty much like drunk-dialing and drunk-texting.. When you text message someone something stupid while you’re drunk and regret it the next day. There’s also DRUNK- EMAILING… and trust me, I’ve done this before and I sure wish Google came up with the solution sooner!

I was drunk that night … feeling pathetic about myself over a break-up and before going to bed, I decided to email him (he was in another country with the new girl!). I type and typed all forms of emotion. Not deleting or editing my thoughts. I was typing fast as I think and then I pressed SEND. Big mistake!

Now Google launched MAIL GOOGLES. When you enable MAIL GOOGLES, it will make you solve few simple math problems AFTER you click SEND, to make sure that you really want to send that (pathetic!) late night Saturday email.

It works late night on weekends (that’s when you really need it anyway!) but can adjust the settings.

Check it out! Hope this saves you from doing something absurd like I did … =)

Bicycle Safety

Published by blognuts under News, Tips Edit This

I was pulling out of a parking lot yesterday and there was a guy on a bicycle, zooming past the drive way on the wrong side of the street. I slammed on my breaks, a little bit shaken and followed the guy with my stare. He did not look back. He was totally oblivious. Thank God I didn’t hit him.  I was so scared for him. Its like he didn’t mind what could have happened to him and he wasn’t even wearing a helmet!

I realized there are a lot of bikers/ cyclist who simply do not know road rules. Here are some bicycle tips that i can think of as someone who has friends who often bikes to commute … and occasionally bikes myself.

1. Keep your bike in good condition. Check your tires and breaks regularly.

2. Wear proper bicycle helmets. And use them! I saw some people holding their helmets while they bike or dangling from their necks. Jeez!

3. Obey traffic signals and traffic lights.

4. Do NOT ride against traffic.

5. Make eye contact with drivers.  Do not assume the driver sees you.

6. Use hand signals. Seriously.

7. Do not use headphones or earphones while biking. This goes to a friend of mine too who listens to her IPOD while biking. PLS PLS PLS DO NOT USE THAT WHILE BIKING.

8. Be prepared to use your breaks!

9. Do not pass on the right.

10.Do not remove your reflectors. There’s a reason why its there. Its not just for design. And i know people who take those out, so pls DONT.

11. Use lights at night. Yes, that is the law!

I also found this online - How To NOT Get Hit By Cars - Important Lessons on Bicycle Safety.

Its short but a good read.. Its not just about bicycle safety. Its how to avoid getting hit by a car while you’re biking on the road. Very helpful information :)
